We are most fortunate at Nutfield Church Primary to have such an expanse of outdoor space for the children to use as part of their learning experience. With the warmer weather coming we try to get outside as much as possible.
We use outdoor learning across the curriculum, recently the children carried out a ‘Hunter/Gatherer’ activity as part of their ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’ topic. We have been outside for Maths to measure the distance we were able to throw bean bags using metre ruler sticks.
We have also been out to collect objects of nature to predict how much they might weigh and then to weigh them using scales. Just before Easter we joined up with Year 4 to do an Easter egg hunt; the children found pictures of Easter eggs with a physical task written on them for the children to do.
We also love to go outside for story time giving us a most peaceful and pleasant end to the school day.
