On Wednesday 16th, Thursday the 17th and Friday 18th of October, Year 5 experienced three days of watersports at Mercers Park – a lake-based watersports centre on the doorstep of Redhill. The children were split into 4 equal groups and worked together to learn new water skills such as paddleboarding, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing.
The children also had the opportunity to build rafts and then use these to rescue Miss Mitchell, who had been taken by the ‘evil pirate Esmee’ and left stranded on the pontoon on the other side of the lake! We are happy to report that the children’s raft building skills meant that they successfully managed to rescue Miss Mitchell!
Miss Mitchell and Mr Peluso were very proud of the children’s conduct and enthusiasm throughout the three days and it did not go unnoticed by members of the public either. The class received 6 (yes 6) compliments from members of the public and one email of well-done from the centre, which is included below for you to read. Miss Woods was absolutely delighted and due to their exemplary behaviour, Year 5 were awarded an ‘Ambassador’s Playtime’ to celebrate their successes!
‘I just wanted to send a quick thank you on behalf of all of the staff here at Aqua Sports that had the pleasure of working with your year 5s this week. They were a pleasure to teach and are truly a credit to the school! Being their first school trip in a long time we weren’t sure what to expect in all honesty. But the manner in which they conducted themselves around the centre and on the water was impeccable. Easy to teach and very forthcoming with questions and interest in the sports, we would love to have them back as soon as possible!’
