On the 1st of April Nutfield Church School hosted their annual Easter Service. The service is usually held at Christ Church, but as this wasn’t possible this year, the service was held in the school grounds and luckily the weather was glorious for us. The service was particularly poignant, as it was the first time the whole school had come together since the beginning of lockdown in March 2020. Children sat in their respective phase ‘bubbles,’ symbolically forming the shape of a cross.
The Faith Team read passages from the Bible which re-told the Easter story. Each Bible reading was followed by a prayer. Year 1 + 2 Faith Team read Easter poems with a biblical theme. The Easter Gardens, which each class made together the week previously, were placed around the altar table. A few days earlier the Faith Team had judged the Easter Gardens and Mrs Brooks was pleased to announce the winner –Year 3 – during the service.
The service finished with welcoming ‘Peter Rabbit’ into our family. Peter is currently being cared for by the children in EYFS and Year 1. At the end of the service, before saying the Lord’s Prayer together, Children in Year 1 and Mrs Cordey lead prayers of hope for Peter. The outdoor service came about through being unable to worship in church together, but it was such a resounding success that it is hoped we will be able to continue our worship outdoors in the future.
